We begin preparing our heart for our husbands by going before the Lord and laying it all at the foot of the cross. We all desire successful relationships but it is not about our efforts and works, as much as it is about what He wants to do through us. The unity in this relationship equips us for the mission that we are to walk out together serving and ministering to others. We just need to be willing and obedient and then God meets us right where we are!
Our ministry as wives is to love and honor God by showing love and honor to our husbands. As women our responsibilities are diverse and endless, we can tire small things make a big difference. Speaking words that build up or making time with him a priority speaks volumes, even if we need to come back to that pile of clothes later. Laundry waits! Making the time you have together count blesses both of you! God designed this awesome union of husband and wife and He loves to see two people living in the way He purposed. We are all periodically self centered and that selfish nature gets in the way! Marriage has a way of exposing the good, bad and the ugly! We want to be a sweet smelling rose to our husbands! We don’t want to be like that woman, who was referred to in the Bible, as a constant drip that wore her man slap out! We want to be the best version of ourselves for the man God entrusted to us! Happiness will find us as we do it God’s way!
Esther prepared for a year before she met her future husband, the King. After they married, she had to address him about something very serious, again she took time to prepare. She went to the Lord first and then took care of the rest. Esther 4:16, “Go, gather all the Jews that are present in Susa, and observe a fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids also will fast in the same way. Then I will go in to [see] the king…” She invited God to be involved and then she got His results!
Marriage is a daily act of faith trusting in God and your spouse. Trust that God knows each personal situation and has answers! When we seek Him first He gives us a clear vision of who we are, who we want to be as a couple and who He is as the One who enables us to get there. Then we are prepared for the most beautiful journey of our lives!
Lord, prepare my heart for my husband in a way only You can. You know our inner most thoughts and the desires of our hearts. Make me and mold me to be a wife that will be a tremendous blessing to my husband. Thank you for constantly working through us! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
